The rule in one sentence
AAT sets no fixed hours; members must assess their learning needs, plan and complete relevant CPD, review regularly, keep records for at least five years, confirm compliance at each membership or licence renewal, and provide records when AAT requests them.

How many hours of CPD do I need?
Short answerThere is no minimum hours figure. AAT's outputs-based approach requires you to assess your learning needs and work out for yourself how many hours you need, then plan and complete that CPD. Licence holders must additionally cover legislation, anti-money laundering, practice management and business skills. New full members commit to a CPD pathway programme in their first 12 months.
What counts as CPD?
Short answerAny activity that addresses a need identified in your assessment, provided you record the activity and the insight gained. AAT offers a CPD Cycle tool and online CPD Record but accepts other records. Members of an IFAC body may follow that body's policy, though licence holders must still meet AAT's licensed-member requirements.
What happens if I'm audited?
Short answerYou must submit your CPD records when AAT asks and demonstrate compliance. Licence holders may be asked for evidence per service or licence tier. AAT may support you to become compliant, but persistent failure can lead to licence conditions, termination or removal from the Register. There is no appeal.
When is the deadline?
Short answerAAT publishes no calendar deadline. AATQB, MAAT and FMAAT members confirm CPD compliance when applying for or renewing membership and/or a licence, so your renewal date is effectively your deadline. Records must be retained for at least five years in case AAT requests them.
