How many hours of CPD do I need?

Short answerThe Physiotherapy Board of Australia requires a minimum of 20 hours of CPD in each registration year. If you registered part-way through the year, it is pro-rated at five hours for every three months remaining. Activities must maintain or improve competence in your scope of practice. Other boards: OT 20 (5 interactive), psychology 30 (10 peer consultation), podiatry 20 (5 interactive).

Psychologists

The Psychology Board's standard adds peer consultation and a learning plan to the hours. It consulted on a revised standard in mid-2026, so expect changes from 2027.

What counts as CPD?

Short answerActivities that maintain or improve competence in your scope of practice. Keep a CPD portfolio and activity records for five years: a log showing dates, activity type, hours and learning outcomes, plus evidence such as certificates or reflective notes. Hours cannot be carried forward to the next year.

What happens if I'm audited?

Short answerAhpra audits random samples of practitioners throughout the year. If selected, you receive a postal notice with a checklist and have 28 days to supply evidence of the CPD you declared at your last renewal. False declarations and non-compliance are referred to the Board, which can impose conditions or refuse renewal.

When is the deadline?

Short answerYour registration year ends on 30 November, when renewal is due; the one-month late period runs to 31 December and registration then lapses. CPD completed between 1 December and the following 30 November counts towards that year's declaration. Exemptions must be applied for before the registration period ends.
