Audit checklist
The one-page version of our 30-day plan for a CPD audit. Print it, or save it as a PDF from your browser, and tick off each step. It works for any regulator.
Day one: read your letter
- Write your deadline in your calendar. The HCPC gives about three months; NMC verification gives 21 days.
- Note exactly what's asked for. The HCPC wants a four-part profile: summary of practice, a list of your CPD, a personal statement and evidence.
- Check how to submit. Most regulators use an online account: HCPC online account, MyNMC, myGPhC.
Week 1: gather everything
- List every piece of learning since your last renewal: diary, email, training record, supervision notes, appraisal, courses your employer logged.
- Add the informal learning: reading, case discussions, teaching students, feedback you acted on.
- Find the evidence: certificates, notes, emails, slides.
- Remove any patient or client details from the evidence.
- Look for gaps. The HCPC asks you to explain any gap of three months or more.
Week 2: choose your best examples
- Choose a mix of learning types, not five courses.
- Prefer activities where you can say what changed in your practice, and who benefited.
- Pick four to six activities, as the HCPC suggests.
Week 3: write it, in your own words
- Write your summary of practice: your role, who you work with, and where. Plain and factual.
- For each activity, say what you did, what you learned, what you changed and who benefited.
- Link evidence to each claim.
- Write it yourself. Don't use AI to write it.
Week 4: check, then submit early
- Check your draft against each standard, one at a time.
- Ask a trusted colleague to read it. The words must be yours.
- Submit a few days early.
- Keep a copy of everything you sent.
Can't make the deadline? Contact your regulator as soon as you know, before the deadline. Regulators can allow more time in some circumstances, such as illness.
