How many hours or records do I need?
Short answerThere is no mandatory hours figure. CIPD's policy is outcomes-based, focused on the impact of learning rather than time spent. It recommends around 30 hours of planned learning a year, complemented by learning in the flow of work, and requires at least three CPD records to be submitted annually through the My CPD Records tool.
What counts as CPD?
Short answerAny learning that improves your practice counts, planned or informal. What matters is the record: each must reflect on the impact of the learning on your work at your membership grade. You may use generative AI to research and support learning, but reflections must be your own experience and your own words.
What happens if I'm audited?
Short answerEach year CIPD randomly selects members near year-end and emails them. You have about two months to submit three CPD records through the Learning Hub tool. Submissions are assessed against set criteria about impact at your grade and you receive feedback. Failing to engage may breach the Code of Conduct.
When is the deadline?
Short answerThe CPD year runs January to December and audits happen towards the end of the year, so your three records should be in place by December. CIPD publishes no fixed calendar date; the only hard deadline is the roughly two-month window given when you are selected for audit.
