The rule in one sentence
Registrants must maintain competence under the seven-point CPD Code and record their CPD (mandatory); there is no minimum number of hours; each licensed institution samples at least 5% of registrants' records every year, and professionally active registrants who persistently ignore sample requests risk removal from the Register.

Since 2019 every licensed engineering institution has been required to sample its registrants' CPD records each year, with a minimum of 5% selected at random. Selected registrants submit records for the previous 12 months and receive feedback from volunteer assessors. Persistent non-engagement, not weak CPD, is what leads to removal from the Register.
What if my institution has its own CPD tool?
Each institution has its own tool, but the Engineering Council doesn't make you use one, and a sampled record usually goes in through the institution's system. Keep your CPD in RiverCPD all year, then download your 12-month record when the request arrives.
